- Katie Birkinshaw and Daniel Gage are two very talented 14-year-old ballroom and latin dancers from Perth, Western Australia.Katie and Daniel started their respective dancing careers at an early age and began competing with different partners in the Juvenile category (under 13 - the youngest age group). In September 2011, they partnered as a Dancesport couple and showed their talent by winning their first competition after just 2 weeks of working together. Four weeks later they competed at the East Coast Classic in Sydney and won the National Junior 8-Dance title. In 2012, Katie and Daniel will compete for honours at four (Australian) National Championship competitions: - The Night of the Stars in Perth on 9 June, - The National Capital Dancesport Championships in Canberra on 23/24 June, - The South Pacific Championships in Sydney on 6/7 October, and - The Australian National Championships (incorporating the World Standard Championship) in Melbourne from 27 November to 2 December. In order to assist them in their endeavours a fundraiser cabaret was organised on Friday 18 May 2012 at the Melville Bowling Club, Perth, Western Australia; which was attended by David Tham. This video was recorded using an iPhone. The money raised from this event will help Katie and Daniel with their travel, accommodation and entry fee costs for the competitions. That evening, two other Western Australian couples also demonstrated their talent:- Riley Moriarty & Chloe Van de Klashorst, who are a juvenile category couple who demonstrated how Dancesport couples start out at an early age. (Unfortunately, we did not manage to get a reasonable recording of their performance to show you in these highlights)- Brodie Barden and Lana Skrgic-de Fonseka, who are Australian Youth Champions and who have just returned from Tokyo, where they represented Australia at the World Championships. (who are featured in this video as well)The fundraiser night was full of dancing (including fun dances and easy instruction for non-dancers), raffles, prizes, food and entertainment and went till midnight. This video only shows the highlights from the evening. You can watch all the dances at Martin Poel's YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGwX-8p9jxcCredits: Christina Perri sings "A Thousand Years" (recording). © 2011 WMGMichael Jackson sings "Man In The Mirror" (recording). © 1987 MJJ Productions Inc. Norah Jones sings "Come Away With Me" (recording) © 2002 Blue Note Records---------------------------------------------------NOTE: This video was originally recorded in the context of DanceSport (i.e. ballroom dancing). The entire music recording was ambient and recorded "live" at a community event in the public domain.Recording label company SME has since made a copyright claim against the use of Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" which is a song used in one of the dances in this video. Another recording label, EMI, has also made a claim against the use of Nora Jones' "Come Away With Me". Likewise by WMG for Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years".We have disputed YouTube's Copyright Infringement notice and appealed because the recorded sound was ambient and taken at a public event. The organisers of the event paid for permission to use the music at this public event. However, the recording labels have responded by reinstating their Content ID claim and blocking access to this video in several countries. Our apologies if you are accesssing this video from one of those countries.
